I want to walk you through the process of making the Fabric Flowers that I showed you yesterday. First of all, you can use any kind of fabric that you have on hand or you can stop by the fabric store to look through the left-over bin to see what great scraps you can find.
The flowers are cut out using the Stampin' Up! Flower Folds die on page 201 in the Idea Book & Catalog. You simply put four to six layers of fabric on those flower shapes that you wish to cut out and, using your Extended Cutting Pads for the Big Shot, cut the shapes out. You can use all four if you want a large flower. I made mine with the three smallest flowers. Here is a picture of the flower shapes folded in half and ready to put together.
Before Christmas several of my group, Southern Stars, and I got
together and made flowers by sewing the layers together. But, the
easier way is to simply get out your glue gun and heat it up. That is
the way I made these flowers and it really does make the process easy
peasy! Here is the way to layer your flowers.
As you fold each flower in half, add a small amount of hot glue and as you layer the flowers together add a small amount of hot glue. This holds your flower shape easily, without taking the first stitch! I love it. They are so easy and quick to make.
On the smallest flower I inserted one of Stampin' Up!'s new Pretty in
Pink Corduroy Buttons through the center where the fabric pieces meet
and spread the tips of the brad underneath to hold it in place. You could also use a button, just add it with the hot glue.
Below I have added the flower to a purse made by one of my Southern Stars, Billi Parus. She is a fabulous quilter (in fact, years ago, she helped me make a beautiful blue quilt for my Father) and, she cut all the shapes for the purse (you guessed it!!!) on the BIG SHOT! Thank you, Billi!
And, of course, these can be easily made into pins by attaching a pin to the back. Tomorrow I will show you how to do that. If you would like to learn to make these flowers, just let me know and I will schedule a FABRIC FLOWER CLASS soon.
